Steve Wright, incumbent member of the Grant County Board of Commissioners, is seeking the Republican nomination for re-election to his seat representing District 1. The primary election will be held on May 7.

On his campaign's Facebook page, Wright emphasizes his commitment to limited government, individual freedom, and property rights, as well to supporting and working with local law enforcement to make the community a safer place to live. In a post, he writes: "As a public official, I understand the immense importance of compromise and the continuous pursuit of knowledge. My commitment has always been to make informed decisions that prioritize the well-being of our community. I believe in acting with wisdom and compassion, always striving to understand the needs and aspirations of those I serve."

According to his LinkedIn page, in January 2000, Wright began his first of three consecutive terms as Marion City Councilman-at-Large. He has served on the Grant County Board of Commissioners since July 2022.

Wright worked for 20-plus years as a senior marketing rep at Indiana Michigan Power and held a number of positions at General Motors over the course of close to 20 years. Currently, he is president of Wright Promotions, LLC.

On his campaign website, Wright reveals that during his time at General Motors, he earned his master's degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, an achievement of which he is very proud and that he believes is a testament to his commitment to education. He and his wife of 50 years are proud parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents, and his family and faith are of paramount importance to him.

Per their website, the Grant County Board of Commissioners serves as the county's executive body, and they are tasked with "executing the acts legislated by the council, the collection of revenue, and managing the day-to-day functions of the county government." The commission is made up of three members who are elected to staggered four-year terms, with one member — usually the most senior — serving as president.
